About Jonah

Jonah Fertig-Burd is Director of Cooperative Food Systems at the Cooperative Development Institute. He helps farmers, fishers, cooks and food producers to form co-ops in Maine and the Northeast. He particularly focuses on working with immigrant and refugee farmers in Maine and the Northeast and supported the development of New Roots Cooperative Farm and the Isuken Co-op. Previously, he co-founded Local Sprouts Cooperative, Maine Farm & Sea Cooperative, Greater Portland Community Land Trust, Mayor’s Initiative for a Healthy and Sustainable Food System and People’s Free Space. He’s currently on the board of Cooperative Fund of New England, Cooperative Maine Business Alliance, Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn, and Land in Common Community Land Trust. He co-owns Celebration Tree Farm & Wellness Center, an organic farm. He is a gardener, cook, artist, and musician.
