About Anthony

Anthony is an organic farmer who has been working on sustainable community development in central Appalachia and across the US for the past 35 years. SCALE, Inc, is a private consulting business dedicated to catalyzing and supporting ecologically healthy regional economies and food systems that build real wealth and foster self-reliance and resilience. SCALE works with local leaders, entrepreneurs and small businesses, farmers, foundations, economic development agencies, and others, providing feasibility studies, business plans, research, training and technical assistance, all grounded in real-world experience. Anthony speaks and writes frequently about these issues, and his book, Building a Healthy Economy from the Bottom Up: Harnessing Real World Experience for Transformative Change, has been used by practitioners, university professors and everyday folks. His current work seeks to better connect local economy work with broader social change and political efforts, including overcoming the urban-rural divide.
